On July 3rd at Fort Erie racetrack, I'm No Sleepy Joe was piloted by apprentice jockey Alexis Sanchez in the 2nd race of the day. It was announced that the apprentice will ride I'm No Sleepy Joe without a whip and even though the race was one of the best of the day I'm No Sleepy Joe finished 4th in a finish that required the photo-finish to decide the outcome.

It was announced in the very next race that the apprentice Alexis Sanchez will carry a whip while riding Thy Kingdom, trained and owned by veteran trainer Luthia Shirley who trains mostly at Fort Erie racetrack.
That was the change needed to give Alexis Sanchez his first career win and also Luthia Shirley's first win since 2019 when she sent out Miss Tea Blonde in a maiden claiming at Fort Erie racetrack.
The trainer did a great job of spotting this horse in the right race and even though Thy Kingdom went off at 22-1, he romped to victory in a well-ridden race by the jockey Alexis Sanchez.
Alexis now has one career win which should give him a whip start for the rest of the year.
